The new project by Rubbettino and Lanificio Leo: Fables under the blankets is an innovative publishing and design project conceived for the magical moment of reading fairy tales, to unite children and parents in a multi-sensory experience.

Made thanks to the manufacturing skills of Rubbettino and Lanificio Leo, Fables under the blankets is a series of children’s books that combines each issue with a mini plaid illustrated in jacquard knit. The first two titles of the series refer to two of Aesop’s fables, “The tortoise and the hare” and “The deer and the lion”.

“Fables under the blankets is a quality Italian manufacturing project that follows the tradition of the book as a design object, an experimental edition for children that focuses on the cognitive development of the child.”

The books are conceived as a continuous drawing that develops over several pages bound together with fabric hinges. Handmade in Italy, they are made with the utmost care in FSC certified recycled cardboard. Each book can be opened completely to see the development of the story’s actions at a glance and also positioned horizontally or vertically, becoming a game.

In the special boxed version, each fairy tale is combined with a version of the same made on a mini plaid / tapestry in merino virgin wool woven by Lanificio Leo. It is a soft support on which even the very young child can visually read the story told by the parent, following the figures that illustrate the story, and at the same time immerse themselves in a warm embrace. The plaid can accompany the child from the first months as a blanket to childhood as a decorative tapestry for the bedroom.

The new collection produced with Alfaterna Marmi, presented in a small preview at Edit Napoli, aims to enhance the working of the chemical and physical elements on the surface of the stone slabs. The inspiration aims to highlight the aesthetic dimension assumed by the stone exposed to chemical, physical and biological agents.

To achieve this goal, we simulated the intervention of nature on it, through contact with various chemical agents, numerical control cutting and the skilful dexterity of Alfaterna Marmi’s artisans.

” The project aims to be a hymn to the classicism of marble and the richness of its workmanship, in which the graphics of nature become a distinctive symbol of the project, capable of transmitting and evoking the history of the stone itself.

The project uses precious and original marbles, experimenting with finishes that will characterize each product in the collection, to bring to light a primordial materiality, generally absent from everyday objects.

The furnace Curti of Milan is a historic site of the Lombardy scenery, where the history and the noble traditions of the Sforza family keep living. Today, the furnace that has relo-cated since its initial creation to the south of Milan, is occupied with artisans and artists that work side by side sculptors, to create a place that has stopped in time.

From the traditional manipulation of clay in the furnace, the Curti tiles was born: a se-ries of tiles, characterized by a modular design with a rhombus shape, that when com-bined, create an image of a city, and the project Salvadanè, inspired by the historic mod-el of a piggy-bank.

The collaboration with the carpentry D3 Wood, that uses 0km-wood, local or reclaimed, gave birth to the bookshelf Mulino, inspired by the machinery designed by Leonardo Da Vinci, and to Ringhiera, a cabinet, inspired by the popular Lombard housings with interior courtyard.

In addition to these elements there is the carpet Nebbia, in the pattern of which one can observe the change of the atmospheric element fog through the years, and Zafferano, a table created from resin, colored with saffron.

The ‘Mulino’ bookshelf was inspired by the machines, designed by Leonardo da Vinci in the Sforza era, as well as the symbolism of the windmill as an energy-producing element. The shape allows for a composition of more than one shelf, placing them on top of each other. It can be positioned against a wall, as well as in the center of a room. Thanks to the straight sides of its silhouette, the bookshelf remains equilibrated even when rotated, the books do not fall, but arrange themselves form one side to the other within its confines.
